Invitation to Participate in an Educator Inservice (Without Charge)

October 1, 1999

The Job Safety Skills Society invites school administrators and teachers currently delivering or planning to deliver one or more of the following job safety skills courses, or involved in the coordination of off-campus education programs, to participate in regional inservices focused on:

A. the effective delivery of the CTS Job Safety Skills courses:

• CTR 1210: Personal Safety Management
• CTR 2210: Workplace Safety Practices
• CTR 3210: Safety Management Systems

B. effective strategies for use by off-campus education coordinators when inspecting and approving the appropriateness and safety of potential off-campus education workplaces for programs/program components such as:

-- Registered Apprenticeship Program
-- Work Experience 15-25-35
-- Work Study
-- Job Shadowing

Responses from each region will determine the locations and dates of each inservice. Tentatively, inservices will be conducted during September, October and November, 1999 in Fort McMurray, Calgary, Grande Prairie, Edmonton, Red Deer, Medicine Hat or Lethbridge.

Inservices will be provided without charge. Participating educators will be provided with resources useful in delivering the job safety skills courses, and upon successful completion of the respective inservices, a Certificate of Course Completion. Schools will be responsible for any travel and substitute teacher costs.

The Job Safety Skills Society is a registered non-profit organization established to enhance and promote the safety of young workers. The society is supported by contributions from business and a number of government and other agencies. The Society was the prime mover in developing these three Job Safety Skills courses that form a key component of the Career Transitions strand of the Alberta Education CTS Program.

In addition, the Society developed and makes available to schools, without cost, teacher resource manuals and other resources to support the delivery of each of the above-referenced safety courses.

To have educators in your school participate in one or more of the Job Safety Skills Inservices, please complete the attached Participant Application Form and return by mail or fax to the Job Safety Skills Society.

The Job Safety Skills Society looks forward to providing these important services for educators.
