North American Occupational Safety and Health Week
May 6 - May 12
North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week runs May 6 to 12, 2018. The mission of this advocacy initiative is for employers, employees, industry partners and the public at large to focus on the importance of preventing injury and illness in the workplace, at home and in communities. North American Occupational Safety and Health Week (NAOSH) began in June of 1997 as an extension of the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering’s (CSSE) Canadian Occupational Health and Safety Week (COHS), which has originally been observed from 1986 to 1996. During the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) conversations between Canada, Mexico and the United States, workplace safety was discussed and it was suggested by Canada’s representative for Mexico and the United States to be involved in similar initiatives as COHS Week. CSSE was then approached regarding support of an expansion of COHS Week to Mexico and the United States. From there, North American Occupational Safety and Health Week (NAOSH) was born. Safety and health events will be taking place throughout Canada during NAOSH Week.
