The intent of Family Literacy Day is to promote the importance of parents encouraging their children to strengthen their reading and writing skills. By engaging youth in fun literary activities and reading with them on a regular basis, parents keep their own literacy skills strong while aiding their children in developing their own. Family Literacy Day is a national awareness initiative that was implemented by ABC Life Literacy Canada in 1999 and is held annually on January 27. It is awareness campaigns such as Family Literacy Day that advocate for youth literacy and education, and thus allow the Job Safety Skills Society’s JobSafe Program and courses to successfully prepare youth for the workforce and promote safety consciousness in workplaces.
